Dr. Bernard L. Palowitch, Jr. (Bernie) is an Engagement Director and a Knowledge Management Specialist at Iknow. Dr. Palowitch heads the company's sales and client service delivery functions. He has over 30 years of consulting and project management experience and has been involved with or led over 120 consulting assignments during his career.

Dr. Palowitch founded Iknow in 2001 and currently serves as firm's President.

Prior to founding Iknow LLC, Dr. Palowitch was a Senior Partner in Ernst & Young’s management consulting practice. At E&Y, Dr. Palowitch sold and directed client assignments at many of the world's leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies. He was the firm’s global service line leader for both Strategy and Knowledge Management services in these industries.

Dr. Palowitch was Corporate Director—Business Reengineering at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. In this role, he initiated, planned, and directed strategic and process reengineering projects across the company. Major projects at BMS included worldwide finance, human resources, legal, and supply chain projects.

Dr. Palowitch began his career at McKinsey & Company, where he was a Senior Project Manager. At McKinsey, he led numerous consulting engagements at clients across many process, assembly, and technology-based industries.

Examples of recent client projects include:

  • Led the strategy and planning of a worldclass content processing platform at a global news organization. The goal of the platform is to "extract everything" from more than one million incoming content items per day. Platform services include entity extraction, disambiguation, concept extraction, fact extraction, pronoun resolution, sentiment analysis, and classification.
  • Designed and developed a novel supplier intelligence solution that can ingest, analyze, categorize, and store structured and unstructured information about millions of suppliers. The solution, which continuously processes inputs from hundreds of sources, provides actionable intelligence for real-time decision making and risk management. The initial client was a major US defense contractor.
  • Conducted a global eLearning assessment for a 117,000-person global pharmaceutical and consumer products company.
  • Led the content enrichment and enterprise search enhancement project for a division of the US National Park Service. This project included the automated text mining of thousands of documents and the creation of a taxonomy, metadata, and controlled vocabularies, which were incorporated into their enterprise content management and enterprise search systems.
  • Doctor of Science degree, Chemical Engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Palowitch’s thesis research investigated qualitative modeling and simulation at MIT’s Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory.
  • Master of Science degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh.

Bernie enjoys playing a variety of racquet sports, sailing, and traveling. His favorite places include Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia); Columbia River Gorge (Oregon); Rome, Florence, and Venice (Italy); and Ooty (Tamil Nadu, India).

He has three children—Garrett, Gavin, and Galen.
